Gomma history

Gomma was born in 2000.
Created, curated and directed by Mathias „Munk“ Modica and Jonas Imbery, who later left the label.
Art direction by Mirko Borsche & Thomas Kartsolis aka Smal & Paze.

Music:
We released indie disco, new wave funk, weird pop & experimental electronica by artists like
WhoMadeWho, Munk, Headman, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Moullinex, Mocky, Daniel Avery, Dimitri from Paris, Lele (aka Parra), Tomas „Tomboy“ Barfod, Box Codax (Franz Ferdinand side project) and others.

Munk/ Gomma also produced music for/ with
James Murphy, Asia Argento, The Rammellzee, Peaches, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem)…
We curated compilations dedicated to New Wave Funk & Post Rock: ANTI NY (2001) and TEUTONIK DISASTER (2004)

Art & Graphics:
We made art and visual projects, published the graphic magazine Amore and curated exhibitions in galleries around the world.
Gomma retrospectives have taken place in Munich (Haus der Kunst), Stockholm (Beneath gallery), Berlin (Circle Culture), Tokio (with 032C magazine) and other cities.

Fashion:
We produced over 50 different limited editon design shirts.

We made music for shows, events and campaigns of fashionbrands such as Margiela, Wood Wood, Surface to Air, Chanel and worked for Parisian fashion institution Colette.

Artur 8 - man from Warsaw – raised in Berlin – djing all over the world and known for being one of the most talented disco and early house DJs around. But his name is still known only by the scene’s real connoisseurs.. but his King of Kong remix for Diskokaine’s upcoming single Hall Of Shame has already featured by Aeroplane on their charts. Le Le – Disco Monster / Breakfast Remixes (Maxi)

It has been a rumor on blogs for a some time …but now it’s sure. Le Le will release their album Le Classics on Gomma in May. The band of Serge Fabergé, Rimer London and sooperdooper illustrator Piet Parra finally decided to do release a collection of their songs on Gomma.

A few tracks had been on blogs and caused a big buzz. And in fact: Their dirty techno funk & proto house is fun. Inspired by 90ies Eurotrash, Italo, The French Riviera, Pop clichés and using a unique combination of English, Dutch, German, French and fantasy words.

For now we release two pre–album singles: Disco Monster and Breakfast. Both songs have been getting big talks on the blogs and DJ support from DJ such as Mehdi, Headman, Erol Alkan, Aeroplane… also the remixes are bombs. Check them out.. Azari & III, Mercury, Seymour Bits, Kill The Noise.

Le Le “Disco Monster” (Video)

Yo! Here comes another appetizer for the upcoming album of Le Le – the band of Parra, Serge Fabergé and Rimer London from Amsterdam. Disco Monster is part of the album Le Classics and will be released on Gomma soon. The single will be out next week with remixes by Azari & III, Seymour Bits, Mercury etc.

Today we’re launching a new feature on our home page: the Telegomma video browser. Developed by our friends at Visuardo, this Youtube browser enables you to watch videos, save playlists and surf around the video clip universe in a much easier and comfortable way. He is late …with his Winter Mix – Mathias – our man from Munk… but he was really busy the last months.. producing the album for the German band Die Sterne, finishing his own new single La Musica (Release in May) and his Munk EP for sept..

The Phenomenal Handclap Band – Baby (Maxi)

There is not much left to say about The Phenomenal Handclap Band from NYC. Blogs, music mags, everybody raved about this new 8 members psychedelic funk future hippie combo. The NME described them as the “follow up to MGMT and Empire Of The Sun”.

Anyway: here is the new single. Remixes by: Blackstrobe from Paris–The pioneers of the Parisian House scene are coming back with their first remix since years. And they do a beautiful -one for the ladies- classic 90ies house tune. Rodion from Italy are in the perfect Italo disco mood and Daniel Haaksman -the dude behind Europe’s leading Baile Funk label Man Recordings comes up with heavy heavy percussion breaks. And Clock Opera aka Guy Connelly, after remixing Bloc Party and Peter, Bjorn & John, contributes a deep, rolling remix.

Die Sterne by Munk

Check this out, friends: Mathias Modica – our man from MUNK – has produced and co-written the new album of German Indie Rock Superstars Die Sterne. The CD 24/7 has just been released on Materie records. Mathias had been asked to help to create a completely new and very disco-inspired sound for the band from Hamburg. A very special take on No Wave/Indie House with German lyrics. Currently there is a big press hype about this in Germany and the album has charted on #61 in Germany… Check the last video and the 3-track pre-release that we did on Gomma.
