Gomma history

Gomma was born in 2000.
Created, curated and directed by Mathias „Munk“ Modica and Jonas Imbery, who later left the label.
Art direction by Mirko Borsche & Thomas Kartsolis aka Smal & Paze.

Music:
We released indie disco, new wave funk, weird pop & experimental electronica by artists like
WhoMadeWho, Munk, Headman, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Moullinex, Mocky, Daniel Avery, Dimitri from Paris, Lele (aka Parra), Tomas „Tomboy“ Barfod, Box Codax (Franz Ferdinand side project) and others.

Munk/ Gomma also produced music for/ with
James Murphy, Asia Argento, The Rammellzee, Peaches, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem)…
We curated compilations dedicated to New Wave Funk & Post Rock: ANTI NY (2001) and TEUTONIK DISASTER (2004)

Art & Graphics:
We made art and visual projects, published the graphic magazine Amore and curated exhibitions in galleries around the world.
Gomma retrospectives have taken place in Munich (Haus der Kunst), Stockholm (Beneath gallery), Berlin (Circle Culture), Tokio (with 032C magazine) and other cities.

Fashion:
We produced over 50 different limited editon design shirts.

We made music for shows, events and campaigns of fashionbrands such as Margiela, Wood Wood, Surface to Air, Chanel and worked for Parisian fashion institution Colette.

The Phenomenal Handclap Band & Peaches “Walk The Night” (video)

New York’s The Phenomenal Handclap Band released their debut album 2 years ago on Gomma. For the “Casablanca Reworks” project they did this great remake of the Skatt Bros “Walk The Night” A big gay anthem in the 80ies. A great dancefloor tune for today!

Gomma All Stars feat. Peaches “Casablanca Reworks” (12″)

Today is the day: Peaches & The Gomma All Stars release The Casablanca Reworks Project.

Four songs from the legendary Casablanca records catalogue reworked by the Gomma All Stars and Peaches. Created in collaboration with Burn Studios. Harold Faltermeyer contributes some analogue Keyboards on a great new version of Donna Summer’s “Our Love” produced by Telonius. A 90ies pop version of a Stephanie Mills classic by Mr. Munk. Flashdance – “Maniac” by Moullinex and a cover for the Skatt Bros’ “Walk The Night” by The Phenomenal Handclap Band.

Phenomenal’s getting bigger & bigger

This week our Phenomenal Handclap Band reach number one on French iTunes Alternative chart! Yeah…congratulations guys. “15 to 20″, the single from their last album on Gomma is placed above Muse and Coldplay.. PHB’s gonna rule the world..!

The Phenomenal Handclap Band live @ Transmusicales Rennes

Gomma’s very best psychedelic funk crew The Phenomenal Handclap Band from New York recently performed a great gig at the Transmusicales in Rennes, France’s most important festival. We received this little film…you might like it. You might like also the Phenomenal Handclap Remix album that was released recently featuring remixes by Stallions, Fujiya & Miyagi, Clock Opera, Munk, Telonius, etc.

The genre-defining debut album of our New York friends from The Phenomenal Handclap Band has been a favorite of music lovers and press all around the world this year.
