Gomma history

Gomma was born in 2000.
Created, curated and directed by Mathias „Munk“ Modica and Jonas Imbery, who later left the label.
Art direction by Mirko Borsche & Thomas Kartsolis aka Smal & Paze.

Music:
We released indie disco, new wave funk, weird pop & experimental electronica by artists like
WhoMadeWho, Munk, Headman, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Moullinex, Mocky, Daniel Avery, Dimitri from Paris, Lele (aka Parra), Tomas „Tomboy“ Barfod, Box Codax (Franz Ferdinand side project) and others.

Munk/ Gomma also produced music for/ with
James Murphy, Asia Argento, The Rammellzee, Peaches, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem)…
We curated compilations dedicated to New Wave Funk & Post Rock: ANTI NY (2001) and TEUTONIK DISASTER (2004)

Art & Graphics:
We made art and visual projects, published the graphic magazine Amore and curated exhibitions in galleries around the world.
Gomma retrospectives have taken place in Munich (Haus der Kunst), Stockholm (Beneath gallery), Berlin (Circle Culture), Tokio (with 032C magazine) and other cities.

Fashion:
We produced over 50 different limited editon design shirts.

We made music for shows, events and campaigns of fashionbrands such as Margiela, Wood Wood, Surface to Air, Chanel and worked for Parisian fashion institution Colette.

It was great…the Phenomenal Handclap Band rocked in a hippy style, Mustang played the avant disco, Moullinex brought some breakdowns, Telonius and Munk made the girls sweat….let’s say: it was great at Gomma Super Show in Paris last saturday…here are some pics.

Munk DJing around France this week: 11th Feb: Marseille – Dame Noir, 12th Feb: Nice – Antic Boutik, 20th Feb: Paris – Divan du monde (w/ Boombass from Cassius). He also just finished the Gomma Dance Tracks Mega Mix #2!
    
Telonius remixed Two Door Cinema Club’s new single “Undercover Martyn” and it will be available soon on Kitsuné Music. Also check out his Winter Favs on Beatport and the live recording of his set from last week’s gig at Lux Lisbon.

The new artist on Gomma records: Mustang from Belgium. Renaud Deru & Andy Faisca. They are the new shooting stars of the Belgian Dance scene after Soulwax, Aeroplane, Glimmers. Both guys are in their mid twenties, but have been in the dance scene for ages. DJing under the name of as Cosy Mozzy, being art directors of Brussels’ best club Dirty Dancing and creating a fame for mixing up house, disco and boogie in a very special way. The Chameleon Circus EP is a beautiful boogie record. The most lovely melodies and harmonies you can imagine. Jazz House, Folk Boogie…

And the buzz is already starting: Vitalic, Editors, The KDMS asked for remixes. Their first tracks on “Chameleon Circus” are getting great great feedback…we are getting nice mails from Rub’n’Tug’s Eric Duncan, Baby G from Eskimo to Tobias Thomas from Kompakt…..check out the Mustang Folk House styleeeeeeee…..
