Podcast #32: Munk Mix for DiscoSafari

This is a mix that Mathias did for the guys from great Italian blog DiscoSafari. The boys make parties in Milan, have one of the best record shops in Italy and produce hot & healing house music as The Barkings Dogs.

The mix starts with the not yet released Munk remix of the new Jolly Jams E.P. and after some more straight house tracks it gets more and more into mid 70ies weird discofunk with a quite Arabian and Spanish flavor. In between you also find new tracks by Tony Senghore / Shir Khan, Voltage and others.. Check out Munk’s edit of Turkish funk from Baris Manco or the super rare Italian funk tracks in the end.

Tracklist:

Munk – Mondo Vagabondo (EP)

Munk_final_Mondocover

Release: 1 October 2010
Cat#: Gomma 148

Here it is. Finally. The new Munk E.P. After more then two years Mathias Modica comes back with a 5 track EP. And it seems this release could get big. The pre–release single La Musica came in June and had euphoric reactions. Erol Alkan, Ellen Alien, Tim Sweeney and even Mark Ronson are playing it. Busy P used it for his first Mix CD and Kitsune, Bugged Out, Hed Kandi will re-release this italo house anthem on their upcoming compilations. Even Karl Lagerfeld wanted the song in the soundtrack for his Chanel – movie Remember Now.

The Mondo Vagabondo E.P. is kind of a melancholic dance record. Housemusic and Digital Funk with influences from Psychedelic Rock, Italo Pop, Piano disco… lots of electronic afro percussions, sweet melodies, big chords & screaming organs, irresistible bass lines and a balearic ground vibe. Vocals by Parisian singer Clara Cometti – who used to be part of Koko von Napoo, Munich underground disco queen Francy Goertz and Mathias himself.
