Gomma history

Gomma was born in 2000.
Created, curated and directed by Mathias „Munk“ Modica and Jonas Imbery, who later left the label.
Art direction by Mirko Borsche & Thomas Kartsolis aka Smal & Paze.

Music:
We released indie disco, new wave funk, weird pop & experimental electronica by artists like
WhoMadeWho, Munk, Headman, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Moullinex, Mocky, Daniel Avery, Dimitri from Paris, Lele (aka Parra), Tomas „Tomboy“ Barfod, Box Codax (Franz Ferdinand side project) and others.

Munk/ Gomma also produced music for/ with
James Murphy, Asia Argento, The Rammellzee, Peaches, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem)…
We curated compilations dedicated to New Wave Funk & Post Rock: ANTI NY (2001) and TEUTONIK DISASTER (2004)

Art & Graphics:
We made art and visual projects, published the graphic magazine Amore and curated exhibitions in galleries around the world.
Gomma retrospectives have taken place in Munich (Haus der Kunst), Stockholm (Beneath gallery), Berlin (Circle Culture), Tokio (with 032C magazine) and other cities.

Fashion:
We produced over 50 different limited editon design shirts.

We made music for shows, events and campaigns of fashionbrands such as Margiela, Wood Wood, Surface to Air, Chanel and worked for Parisian fashion institution Colette.

It’s great: Everybody seems to love the new band on our label. A unbelievable euphoria about New York’s PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND everywhere. Franz Ferdinand just called to ask if they wanna go on tour with them. Even the NME describes them as one of the best bands for next year. Seems psych funk is the sound for 2010.

Here is the new single with remixes by New Yorks Disco Man ANTHONY MANSFIELD, DAVID E SUGAR who has been doing stuff for KITSUNE recently, Belgian THE GLIMMERS do the AcidDisco and GOMMAS very own TELONIUS is on a crazy electro disco voyage…this is gonna be sooooo big!

Tribute to DJ Georg Bär (1963-2009)

Late September saw the passing away of one of the most prominent musical figures of Munich, Georg Bär. Georg Bär was a Disco DJ and record collector who used to play in Munich Clubs since the early 80ies. A guy who always was searching for the new, hot unknown stuff. He introduced us to obscure and cool music from all kinds and corners of the world and has always been a big inspiration. Georg never wanted to make edits, blogs, mixtapes or productions–it was hard to convince him to release this 2-track single back in 2007, co-produced by Ben Mono and Albert Pöschl, which we are now putting up for free download in his honor.
