Out on Toy Tonics: „Top Tracks Vol. 4“

The Gomma sublabel Toy Tonics is delivering their next collection of current seasons’ label hits. Ten tracks that got great feedback on dance floors, hit the top of sales charts or had heavy support by DJs:

First tune is by COEO. The guys heavy a good buzz and made it a few times on the top of the big house sales charts. You can find their tracks in playlist of all kind of House DJs: from Detroit Swindle and Oliver $ to Horse Meat Disco and DJ Harvey. Also Session Victim‘s remix for Kapote‘s “Fuck Music” is a good definition which direction the Toy Tonics label is taking with the last releases: bass driven, heavy rolling, funk house that some times recalls the Kenny Dope Hip Hip inspired House or the late 90ies. Or Detroit stuff on Red Planet. Sometimes there is a dirty, technoid energy – but never in your face, always with a big dose of raw soul. Black Loops, Rhode & Brown and Mona Lazette all reflect that vibe. Moody atmospheres in different shades.

Toy Tonics has a little crew of main artists. Apart of their releases other friends do one of EPs: Pezzner did such a single. On TT he is funkier than you might know him. Alixander III from Azari & III did a hypnotic Techno song – all produced on great old synths, with his friends on the mic… Sacha Robotti & Zombie Disco Squad also did a great EP that was a reason many people got for the first time their eye on the label. This compilation also includes remixes by label’s friends: Art of Tones, Hodini, Kian T, Legowelt.

New on Toy Tonics: Lancelot – 7am In The Afternoon

Toy Tonics delivers a surprising new record. A guest appearance from Australian DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Lancelot.

The kid is on the roll: Most recently Lancelot’s „Mover“ EP on Waze & Odyssey’s ‘W&O Street Tracks’ got the nod from acts like Bicep („impressive and addictive track“), Paul Woolford („Reminds me of Mood II Swing at their dubby best“) and Mr G. He was invited to play at Boiler Room London and toured across the UK, Europe, United States and Asia.

His new EP for Toy Tonics is a bit different – a three track collection of dense, eccentric house music. Title track „7AM In The Afternoon“ is a journey paying homage to the witching hour. „Again & Again“ plays tug of war with bassline semitones while „Lorikeets“ flutters with warm stereo delayed synths.

Alongside his Toy Tonics release, this summer Lancelot will also be sharing new material and remixes on Freerange, Ninja Tune’s ‘Counter’ imprint and ‘W&O Street Tracks’.

Gomma Podcast #132 – Munk’s Spring Mix

Mr. Munk‘s spring mix is fitting well into the sunny days we are having in germany these days. A mix full of soulful, but never cheesy proto-house and strange kind of electronic dance music. Influences from Africa, old 70ies Funk 45″ and early Detroit Technofunk.

Barotti x Ralf Schmerberg x 032C

German director Ralf Schmerberg teamed up with Berlin’s 032C magazine for a mini-movie. Shot at different iconic locations in Berlin. Based on music by Gomma artist Barotti. Taken from his album “Rising” (2015).

In celebration of its 30th issue, 032c and artist-director Ralf Schmerberg created the 78 pages magazine story “An Innocent Mind Has No Fear” and a short film based on a fictional unwritten script for the ultimate Berlin film. An atmospheric trip through dark spaces and mysterious shades of current realities of the German capital.

See also Ralf Schmerberg’s exhibition of photographs, production notes, screen takes, and objects, on show now in the 032c Workshop vitrine at St Agnes in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

New on Toy Tonics: Black Loops – Cassette EP

Here comes a new Toy Tonics EP by Black Loops including remixes by munich based COEO and Neovinyl’s Carlo. They go smooth this time. Rhodes pianos, some jazzy chords, a rolling beat.
The two guys know how to make a swinging loop. And they got style. No wonder as one is a funk drummer – Riccardo – who lives in Berlin and the other – Gabriele – makes his money as a photographer living in Milan. Every two months they meet in Riccardo’s studio space in Berlin Kreuzberg and jam for a few nights and days. Doing new tracks, mixtapes, loops. Djing in local bars and clubs.

15 years ago we released this album. The first album on Gomma. It sounds super fresh now. Folky guitar vibes over distorted electronic future beats…
