Gomma Podcast #134 – COEO

The COEO brothers are hot right now. The two guys from Munich are getting much love from all over the world for their special soul-driven House tracks they release on Toy Tonics. Over the last two years they had several no.1 singles on Traxsource and Juno – and their vinyl sold out immediately. Now they decided to create a mixtape consisting only of COEO remakes and personal edits of old tracks they love. So this mixtape is totally special! Not one of these tracks is available for purchasing… There is some beautiful music here. COEO have the magic touch…

Toy Tonics pres. „Mushroom House“ Compilation

Toy Tonics records presents MUSHROOM HOUSE – a compilation full of Afro & Ethno/House and psychedelic Techno. Exclusive new music by Auntie Flo, Hyenah, DJ Koze, Kapote, Daniel Avery, Munk & Rebolledo and others. 15 exclusive tracks that combine elements from recent deep disco, house and electronica with sounds and vibes from Africa, Arabia or other unusual references.

Mushroom House features several African influences jams by Auntie Flo, Kapote, Haaksman. Some other tracks sound like the artists took an LSD trip while making the track (Capablanca‘s „Acido“ or Munk & Rebolledo‘s „Surf Smurf“). You have tracks that are more on the Weirdo-Techno side of things (Daniel Avery, Alien Alien from Multi Culti). You have the Afro House shooting stars Hyenah (a current favorite of the scene’s main man Black Coffee). And there is this great remix by Panorama Bar regular Massimiliano Pagliara (remixing Barotti‘s masterpiece „She Once Knew“).

It’s 2016 and it’s time to bring more different flavors in dancemusic. The Toy Tonics crew is doing it’s part and adds (one more time) a fresh edge to the actual state of house music.

New Gomma Podcast by Dj Kaos

DJ Kaos made a mixtape for us! You might know our Berlin Amigo: He did great records – first as part of Terranova, later under his own name on DFA, Rong and many other labels. Kaos has been fighting for the funk on dance floors along with Gomma since the mid 90ies! In fact he had been djing at Mathias Modica’s Munich partys before Gomma records was even started. Kaos in Berlin and Mathias in Munich brought New York street art, new electronic music, heavy freestyle vinyl diggerism and an ecclectic attitude into Germany very early. Kaos also made a great remix for Gomma’s Rodion back in 2008 that we recommend to listen to – sounds super fresh now: https://open.spotify.com/album/46hUpMR5FzTPRE0RSU2N11

The 10 defining Toy Tonics tracks, according to Munk

The Gomma sublabel Toy Tonics is getting lots of attention these days…
Here a great feature on Dummy Mag:

Out now: Munk – The Bolero Bunuel EP

The last two Munk releases (on Correspondant and Local Talk) already showed the new side of Mathias Modica’s musical output.
Instrumental, hypnotic, yet funky and tribal mid tempo tracks with almost no vocals.
Now Mr. Munk takes it a few steps further. He is flying his Techno into a Sun Ra Space. „The Bolero Bunuel“ is based on a jazzfunk bassline and some live drumming. The melodies remind of some strange arabian sci-fi things. „The Naked Baam“ reminds of the first Motorbass tracks, back from Paris 1995. Filterfunk! „The Oboe Onyx“ – Boards of Canada could have been somewhere in the studio when this was made. The beat is weird… not quantized. The classical instruments and melodic lines remind of some compositions of late Ligeti or P‰rt. This new Munk EP comes out with Remixes from Lauer and Red Axes.
